Satya's Jevons reference seems on point. DeepSeek and more open source might hurt Nvidia and OpenAI, but people might still need a ton of compute for even better, cheaper AI. Maybe it's an enabler of the 2GW datacenter and 100 years of progress in 10 years (as well as a bit of a bubble-popper).
It's not good for Nvidia and OpenAI if you can do this without OpenAI and Nvidia. But the market should have known that, Google is the top LLM now and they did it on their own TPU custom silicon. If OpenAI and Nvidia get commoditized, maybe good for Google and Microsoft and frees up cash for datacenters and compute. As for Meta, commoditizing OpenAI is what they were after, they can read the papers and apply it to Llama, although for now they ceded open-source leadership.
