DeepSeek R1 available in AWS Bedrock and Sagemaker (previously in Microsoft Azure) - Amazon Web Services
For the record, I do not recommend installing any DeepSeek app or using their platform API. The TOS says they can do anything they want with your data and keep it forever. Companies like Facebook and Uber have abused their apps to collect data on people, what they are doing with other apps. TikTok was used to track journos. Very plausible China might use apps to spy or hack.
But no reason for anyone to avoid using the open source model in Amazon Bedrock, Google Vertex, Microsoft Azure, or elsewhere with vetting. Those services are not going to hack you or spy on you or steal your data, their TOS governs. And the open source model doesn’t even seem tilted toward China. All the propaganda and censorship seems to be in the app built on top of the open source model.
Of course, o3 now seems to be just as cheap and good for most purposes, if you don’t like the Chinese models and don’t even want to eval them side by side.
China is graduating more STEM PhDs than US, leads the US in research citations, and if you take out Asian names from US publications, not that much left. You may not like it but that’s what it is.
