This seems like it might trigger some onerous clauses in its most recent funding rounds, which were premised on the for-profit conversion. I think Softbank's $40b commitment might get cut to $20b. Some social media suggests it’s due to public pushback, but I don't see why AGs would nix a conversion if the valuation is proper, and no misappropriation of the non-profit's assets. I suspect more a function of jockeying between SoftBank, Microsoft and OpenAI, vs AGs and outside groups, Musk. Maybe also employees.
